After more than two decades of experience working in the nonprofit sector, I launched Third Sector Communication Strategies in 2013 to help more groups tap into the power of strategic communications to make a positive impact.

My time serving in the roles of vice president of communications for a statewide health foundation and public relations director for a national nonprofit education policy organization, along with my master’s thesis on how strategic communications helps nonprofits achieve organizational goals, helped me to understand the importance of funders and nonprofits valuing, supporting, and fully utilizing this mission-critical tool. Through strategic planning you set clear organizational and program-specific communications goals, know which audiences you most need to connect with to achieve your goals, craft messaging that will resonate with those audiences, prioritize the communication channels most likely to reach your audiences, and pay attention to targeted measures that can inform and guide your progress.
